About Me

Educational History:

I graduated from The Colony High School before attending Texas Woman’s University in Denton. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in 2011.

Degrees and Certifications:

I have a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Kinesiology and Sociology. I took adaptive physical education, among other courses that prepared me for teaching. I volunteered with an aquatic program at TWU for kids with special needs, Special Olympics, and ARC of Denton County. I was a tutor and mentor serving through Communities in Schools of North Texas at Tomas Rivera Elementary in Denton. I also volunteered at summer camps such as Camp MDA at Camp John Marc, and Camp Summit.

Certified in the following areas:

Generalist EC-6

Special Education EC-12

Supplemental ESL

Professional Development:

CPR/First Aid

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Training

Dyslexia Training, MTA

GT Training

Completed Texas Reading Academies in 2021

Current Position:

I am in my 8th year as a Special Education Teacher at Finley-Oates elementary school. I currently teach Inclusion and Resource for English Language Arts and Reading, and Math, for both Kindergarten and First Grade. I am also a 2nd grade Inclusion teacher in Mrs. Haggard’s classroom, as well as the 2nd grade Special Education Resource Teacher for English Language Arts and Reading.

Previous Position:

This is my 8th year of full-time teaching and I’ve spent all 8 years with Bonham at Finley-Oates. Before arriving in Bonham I previously worked as a substitute teacher with the Lewisville ISD where I gained experience in teaching students from elementary to high school age, and in Special Education classes. I also worked for a literacy intervention non-profit, Reading Partners, in Dallas, as an AmeriCorps VISTA member for two years. I enjoyed my experience as a reading center Site Coordinator with Reading Partners where I worked with students, parents, teachers, school staff, businesses, and community volunteers. I was exposed to more of the educational world which helped me decide to pursue a career as a full-time educator in order to make an even bigger impact on the education and lives of children.

Family Information:

I grew up in The Colony before attending college in Denton at Texas Woman’s University. I have two older brothers who live in the North Texas area, as well as my parents, niece, and many other close relatives. I became an Aunt last year and I have loved every second of it! I have two cats and an Australian Shepherd who just turned one.

Personal Information:

In my downtime I enjoy watching movies, tv shows, reading, hanging out with my cats and pup, and spending time with my family.
